As our first major fundraising event we were excited and hopeful that all would go as planned and our supporters would turn out to fuel the dreams and plans for the future. I am beyond delighted, energized and awed by the energy and tremendous generosity that poured out from the room. The flashes of white auction cards being held up for textbooks, uniforms and scholarships was nearly blinding—of course my eyes were misted over with pride as I could see the passion of so many people who were jumping in to lend a hand to kids they don't even know, during a tough economic time in this country, because they believe that as Desmond Tutu said,
We are one world, and these children are our children, their destiny is our destiny. Each of us can make a difference." ~ Archbishop Desmond Tutu
We are grateful to the businesses and individuals who made donations of goods and services to under write this event, making it possible for the majority of donor's money to go directly to the education of children.
A sold-out house of all ages enjoyed an African family style feast, musicians from Uganda and Nigeria, and most importantly video of our students in East Africa speaking about the importance of education
in their lives. We celebrated the progress and results we have achieved over the past 3
years, and talked about future dreams and plans for schools, teachers, and students who will be the
next generation of global leaders.
Perfect timing for the school year start in January
More than $28,000 raised at the event will now be available to prepare facilities, students, and teachers for the 2010 school year, which begins in less than two months. Funds will be immediately applied to over 110 student scholarships, 3 high school science labs and more than 3,000 greatly needed textbooks, uniforms, materials and school lunches.
