The Asante Africa Foundation, USA location in Oakland, CA, is a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to facilitating the provision of quality education to children in East Africa,( Kenya and Tanzania today). Partnering with African communities, we work with passionate local leaders and program managers to provide scholarships to students and infrastructure funds to schools, supporting projects such as new classrooms, toilets, water harvesting, science labs, etc.

Time Commitment:~ 20 hours/week
We are seeking a person who has a passion for Africa and educating the youth of tomorrow. We are seeking a person who is early to mid career in the non profit world wanting a great organization to develop in and wanting to grow a career. This person will be responsible for developing and managing development and fundraising initiatives, plans and leading a team to implement tactics. The focus is on cultivating, leading and monitoring gift giving, private foundation partnerships, and corporate partnerships in support of current and future needs of Asante Africa Foundation. The individual will also be responsible for the portfolio of donors and may be required to travel as needed. This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and works closely with board members, donors, colleagues, volunteers and the development team. This position would start out as a 50% position and over time grow into a 100% position.

- Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan with strategies and approaches to generate different levels of giving. Drive the strategy and direction around the cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of donors and prospects. Make risk analysis and balance time-cost ratios to ensure Asante Africa Foundation chooses the most appropriate fundraising activities with the highest chance of success.
- Strategically leverage the time of senior leaders to support fundraising targets, including developing the capacity of the Board, Senior Leaders and the Fundraising Team to support annual goals.
- Work jointly with the CFO to monitor income and expenditure against the budget allocated and the target that has been determined.
- Create and maintain relationships with donors who support the global mission of QUALITY education of children in East Africa. Lead and manage the fundraising team including budgeting input, fundraising program direction, supervision, and evaluation of gifting projects.
- Develop an annual communication plan for the individual donor base including regular mail and email communication, and a strategy for annual direct mail appeals. Manage the donor acknowledgement program and develop appropriate follow-up strategies. Ensure that all major donors receive appropriate, consistent recognition and an accounting of the impact that their gift has.
- Represent Asante Africa Foundation at fundraising events and in donor cultivation meetings
- Lead and work through a team; primarily composed of interns, volunteers and some partially paid staff. Lead and supervise development team (interns, volunteer staff) in the effective implementation of a variety of fundraising activities, including preparation of high-quality proposals, grant reports and donor communications, execution of fundraising events, Lead the team for developing grant applications to foundations and implementation of the annual appeal.
- Work collaboratively and execute a comprehensive corporate engagement strategy, including sponsorship opportunities.
- Design and deliver reports that engage and inform members of the Senior Management Team, and the Board Committee in the work and progress of the development function.
- Qualifications and Requirements

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. 5+ years of demonstrated success building and leading the development function in fast-paced, entrepreneurial nonprofit organizations.
- Substantial experience designing and implementing comprehensive fundraising plans for all funding streams including major gifts, corporate, foundation, and annual giving with successful track record of raising funds with a growth track over time; knowledge of foundation grant funding and capital campaigns is a plus.
- Excellent leadership, management and organizational skills.
- Ability to effectively engage senior staff and Board of Directors in solicitation and cultivation activities.
- Desirable is the expertise to participate and lead the creation of content for social networking (e.g. Facebook.com) and on-line media partner sites. Assist in driving traffic to web site by optimizing Google Adwords, etc.

- Exceptional communication skills; articulate, with proven ability to write effectively and speak persuasively and an ability to listen to and learn from others with a sense of inquisitiveness.
