Volunteer Opportunity: Administrative Support for Donor Relations Team Leader
Location: San Francisco Bay Area desirable, but virtual is possible
Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week
Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

Work with the USA Executive Director and Development Team Leaders to be organized and stay on track with commitments, updates, work plans, and organization ability. Under the direction and guidance of the Executive Director, this person will help implement activities as described in the Annual Funding Plan to raise funds and in-kind support from donors and volunteers through the following activities:

  • Manage donor and volunteer acknowledgment by entering information into agency database (Salesforce.com), processing thank you letters, and running standard reports for Development Department. Periodic Interactions with the Bookkeeper are a part of role.
  • Assist Development Team with fundraising campaigns and annual solicitations through coordinating annual mail campaigns, invitations to events and email communications.
  • Schedule donor appointments for Development Team and Executive Director.
  • Assist with donor correspondence by making follow up calls to donors and sponsors.
  • Help create organizational system for new volunteers and interns would be desired.
  • Ongoing training is provided one-on-one with Executive Director and Development Director.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

The ability to help organize and create processes for consistency. Having skills to work with multiple people, some are virtual and some are local.

  • Previous clerical and administrative experience desired. Experience with Salesforce.com donor management software is a plus. Routine use with Microsoft Office, Excel, Powerpoint, Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of people, including paid and volunteer staff. Basic organizational and phone skills required.
  • Strong attention to detail, with good organizational skills. Reliable, self starter needed.
  • Experience in databases, communication skills and office organization desired.

Volunteer Opportunity: Co-Team Leader for Youth Volunteer Program
Location: San Francisco Bay Area
Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week
Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

This Role will be teaming with another Co Leader to create a more active youth volunteer program than we have today. This will include learning about different effective models of engaging youth of all ages in global volunteerism as well as working with youth to create events and campaigns to raise funds and awareness of the need for global education for children everywhere.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Create a model for different ages of youth, work with the Volunteer Manager ot kick off the program and to actively create 2-3 events and campaigns over the summer months for youth in different parts of the bay area.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Prior Volunteer Management experience would be helpful. Enjoying working with youth of different ages is desireable.

Volunteer Opportunity: Database Entry and Management for Scholarships/Projects
Location: San Francisco Bay Area or virtual
Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per week
Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

Individual interested in managing the projects and scholarships databases. This person would work closely with the Program Director here in the USA but the student scholarships and projects are all awarded in Kenya and Tanzania. We have a database created in FileMaker Pro (and eventually migrating to Salesforce.com) and we need an organizer to own working with other database entry persons to get all approved students and projects into the database with all current data. As we receive new incoming applications this person would work with the Program Director as to the entry and tracking processes. There are peak and low effort times depending on the school seasons in Tanzania and Kenya.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Having some database management skills would be very helpful (FileMaker Pro or Access ). Having Salesforce.com experience would be fabulous.

Volunteer Opportunity: Fundraising and Development Intern
Location: San Francisco Bay Area
Time Commitment: 3 days per week for 6 months
Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

Asante Africa Foundation seeks dynamic and creative individuals to join our Development team. This internship is an excellent introduction to fundraising/development and communications/messaging for a major not for profit.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Corresponding with donors, prospects and other key constituents
  • Organizing filing system for major donors
  • Entering and withdrawing data from SalesForce.com - the fundraising software
  • Supporting the administrative needs of the Development team

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

The Development Internship is open to all; however, the program is designed for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates. Ideal candidates will have excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as possess the ability to work independently and in a team.

PREFERRED SKILLS

The intern should have a background and/or interest in one of the following: fundraising, marketing/ communications, entertainment-education, social change communications, and/or international development.

Intern should commit to work part-time: 3 days per week, for six months.

Volunteer Opportunity: Grant Writer for Fundraising Team
Location: San Francisco Bay Area

Job Description

Asante Africa Foundation is a small grassroots non-profit looking for an experienced grant writer who can assist us with conducting searches for possible prospects, preparing grants and submitting grant requests to available sources.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Grant Writer is responsible for increasing support from foundations, corporations, governments, and other grant-making entities. The ideal candidate will have experience in researching funding prospects, writing grant proposals, and securing grants from private sources. The Grant Writer manages the researching of grant opportunities and the writing of grant proposals, including leading a team to consensus on what grants Asante Africa should seek, gathering appropriate data when necessary, gaining approval from board of directors for the submission of final drafts of grant proposals, and meeting grant deadlines. Additionally, the Grant Writer acts as an advisor and key resource to the board on a spectrum of fundraising opportunities.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant Writing volunteer will:

  • Research and contact foundations and institutions to obtain applications and deadline information, maintain a tickler list of upcoming application deadlines and funding files.
  • Seek out and compile information around specific programs and initiatives within the foundation for which grants may be requested.
  • Research, recommend, prioritize and ultimately apply for grants from a wide variety of governmental, private, and public foundations and institutions.
  • Compile, write, and edit all grant applications, following each grant-making organization's guidelines.
  • Keep in contact with grant-making organizations during their review of a submitted grant application in order to be able to supply additional supportive materials and documentation.
  • Supply progress reports when required by a grant-making organization that has funded a project or program.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • Nonprofit, corporate, and foundation grant writing experience with proven results in researching, writing proposals, and securing grants from private entities and federal and state governments or agencies
  • Excellent writing skills and meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
  • Professional demeanor and strong communication and relationship skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with individuals at all levels
  • Ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines

Volunteer Opportunity: Marketing and Public Relations Team Leader

POSITION OVERVIEW

The team leader of Marketing and Public Relations is a senior-level position responsible for the overall promoting of Asante Africa Foundation and all internal and external communications. Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate they have the abilities to strengthening our brand and the skill to enhance our positive reputation in the public and private sections of local, state and national arenas.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Preparing, planning and implementing a coordinated marketing and public relations plan
  • Identifying and initiating opportunities for effective publicity in the media
  • Arranging media opportunities, serving as media spokesperson, cultivating media relationships, developing and maintaining updated media directory, and coordinating media archives
  • Designing tactics to enhance organization’s presence with newspaper, radio, television, online and other media outlets in the local, regional and national arenas
  • Setting, reviewing and updating organizational guidelines on style (for correctness, accuracy and branding)
  • Implementing and overseeing preparation of and editing all promotional materials to ensure that they fit within the marketing and public relations plan, conform with organizational style guidelines, and meet established time-lines
  • Developing and marketing a policy for internal and external events, including online virtual activities, that fits within organization’s marketing, public relations and strategic plans
  • Provide leadership and mentoring for other team members

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for a volunteer monitoring and evaluation assistant to work with the US Director of Programs in efforts to create an effective M&E process to evaluate projects and scholarship impact. This is an exciting opportunity for someone in the field who wishes to be a part of a grassroots, international organization making tangible impact in communities in Kenya and Tanzania.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct research into best practices
  • Work with US Director of Programs to establish effective, relevant M&E procedures for in-country projects
  • Assist in the maintaining accurate data for current and proposed projects
  • Use creativity to develop a working model to be used for future evaluations

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with Monitoring and Evaluation of projects, preferably internationally, but not required
  • Knowledge of issues, particularly education topics in East Africa
  • Background in International Development, Community Development, Education, Non-profit, or related field
  • Strong writing skills
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently – even remotely
  • BA or working towards a degree (students welcome!)

POSITION OVERVIEW

Research / Analysis assistant to help us address tactical and strategic question on impact of education on quality of life in East Africa. This role would report into the Program Director and have research projects on different facets of education: scholarships, teacher training versus education, infrastructure development and other forms of education. These projects will include assessing other efforts attempted in developing countries, best practices learned as well as lessons learned, making recommendations, methods of metricing and long term impact assessment.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

This person will require good research and data mining skills, as well as assessment of data. This person will interact with different levels of the organization for presentation and discussion of research. The ability to document and communicate results, finding and opinions will be important.

Assist the team and or be the team leader of the special events team with planning, implementing and coordinating one or several of our fundraising events that provide the much needed financial support to further the mission of Quality Education for Children in East Africa.

Job Description

To work with the Volunteer Team Leader to be organized and stay on track with commitments, updates, work plans, and organization ability.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position necessitates a high degree of efficiency, organization and volunteer management skills. This individual will work closely with the Volunteer team leader in majority of projects and tasks.

The volunteer coordinator will organize events, recruiting, and effiecient use of volunteer and intern resources. This person will also build and maintain relationships with volunteer groups and individual volunteers, which includes maintaining an email distribution list, phone list, and general contact information for all volunteers.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate all volunteer efforts and participation in collaboration with the Development Administrator, Program director and executive director
  • Develop and implement volunteer reward programs, volunteer recognition, satisfaction, and appreciation events
  • Create and manage volunteer events
  • Recruit volunteers via online resources, as well as public events such as job fairs, volunteer fairs, and college activities fairs

Volunteer Opportunity: Website Copywriter
Location: Virtual

Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented marketing professional to develop website content (new articles, stories from the field,short stories) that supports our new blog, periodic newsletters and external communications.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for developing a clear understanding of the role of Asante Africa Foundation, our partners and the children who benefit from our programs. They must then turn this knowledge into concise, clear marketing copy to be used on the website.
  • Complete between 5-7 pages of website copy in 4-6 weeks cycles. This includes a variety of different types of stories, messages, letters, and campaigns.
  • Report to Communications Director.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

  • 2-3 years professional marketing and writing experience
  • Excellent writing samples demonstrating ability to write persuasive website and marketing copy
  • Ability to quickly understand and mission concepts in clear, concise terms and journalistic stories
  • Experience in marketing, web communications, and editing
  • Eye for accuracy and keen awareness of deadlines
  • Passion for Education for Children in tough environments and the regional interests of East Africa
  • Experience in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or English

This is a virtual volunteer position. The Website Copywriter will work offsite, but is welcome to conduct meetings with the Development and Communications director on-site or via telephone.
