Achievements | 2008 Goals

Each of us supporting the Asante Africa Foundation is driven and determined to keep the commitments that we make to our in-country partners. As a result, we analyze before we commit, aggressively fund raise, and closely metric our results.

To date, we have focused on our ability to deliver, and we are proud of the credibility and trust we have begun to establish with our in-country partners and donors.

Goals for 2008

In 2008, Asante Africa Foundation remains dedicated to providing quality education to children in East Africa. We continue to form partnerships with African communities and work with passionate local program managers who are deeply committed to creating change in their African villages. We envision African communities and families in which children have the opportunity to received QUALITY education to define their futures. Generous contributions from Asante Africa Foundation donors bring these dreams to life. In 2008, our goals are:

Creating Safer Places to Learn

  • Build a nursery school and toilets for 200 children
  • Build three new Primary School dormitories - in three new communities
  • Add four additional classrooms to existing schools
  • Continue to provide a noon meal for nursery school
  • Add 20 new latrines to St. Mary's Primary School
  • Complete Class 8 classroom, desks an materials at Jeremy Academy

Helping Teachers be Better Teachers

  • Training scholarships for at least two teachers
  • Provide an additional 1,000 text books to Primary and Secondary schools

Providing the Gift of Education

  • Sponsor more than 40 students for day, boarding and nursery school
  • Fund school fees, uniforms, meals and other nursery day school expenses for 30 orphans

Highlights of our Accomplishments:

Creating Safer Places to Learn
  • Built Migungani Nursery School, Mto wa Mbu, Tanzania
    • Completed the first classroom and outhouses in the Migungani neighborhood, opening the doors to 110 children with 2 teachers, with future enrollment expected to reach 180 students.
    • Built and delivered 35 nursery school desks, 2 teachers’ desks and numerous book shelves for supplies and materials.
    • Provided daily porridge for all students .
  • Expanded the Jangwani Primary School, Mto wa Mbu, Tanzania
    • Added 4 classrooms to ease overcrowding (previously 700 students in 5 classrooms) at Jangwani Primary School, Built 40 new desks, 3 teacher’s desks and large bookshelves to hold new text books.
  • Expanded capacity at St. Mary's Primary School, Narok, Kenya
    • Constructed a dormitory with bunk beds to house 38 girls
  • Improved infrastructure at Kigongani Primary School in Mto wa Mbu, Tanzania
    • Water line piped to school site for drinking, food preparation and keeping dust down for better health

Helping Teachers be Better Teachers

Launched the Migungani Nursery School Program

  • Provided school supplies for the 110-180 students at Migungani Nursery School.
  • Hired a coach for community leaders for one year to help them learn how to manage the school and finances, including the use of a checking account, paying salaries, and buying porridge for a daily meal for every child.

Launched music and sports programs at 3 Schools in Tanzania

  • Delivered 127 music recorders (flutes), a guitar, and a piano to three Primary schools in Tanzania.
  • Delivered 4 sets of soccer team uniforms, balls, cones and supplies to schools in Tanzania and Kenya

Books and teaching materials to Primary Schools in Kenya and Tanzania

  • Delivered more than 2,000 textbooks for all grade levels and subjects (science, English, math, geography, health education) to Ilkurot and Jangwani Primary Schools
  • Delivered more than 600 pounds of student and teaching supplies delivered Ole Paraita Primary School and Maji Moto Primary School - 3 hours from Narok, Kenya. The supplies included crayons, pencils, scissors, toys and puzzles, divided by age level.
