About Luis Velasquez
Our CEO, Erna Grasz, met Luis Velasquez at a leadership conference earlier this year. They found out they both had a passion for fitness, following their dreams and helping others achieve theirs. He’s an accomplished individual with a PHD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, as well as an MBA in Organizational Leadership. In his spare time he is a competitive amateur athlete who specializes in long distance running, swimming and triathlons. This October he will be partaking on the Javalina Jundred race in Arizona.
About Rick Gaston
Rick is a good friend of Luis Velasquez, having trained and participated in ultra-marathon events over the years. Upon finding out about Asante’s mission through Luis he wholeheartedly agreed to take part and help. When he isn’t spending time running the trails of Marin, Rick is a freelance graphic designer working and living in San Francisco.
About the race
The Javelina Jundred is comprised of six and a half loops on the rolling single track and jeep track of the 15.4 mile Pemberton Trail. The race begins in the clockwise direction and alternates each loop (washing machine style). Each loop climbs from Javelina Jeadquarters at 1800 feet to a high point of 2400 feet near the foothills of the McDowell Mountains.
